43 Receive Cell Phone Tickets Tuesday

The Elk Grove Police Department focused on distracted drivers Tuesday morning.

The department issued 43 tickets for alleged cell phone use while driving, and 16 for "other vehicle code violations," it said on Twitter.

The agency said it would be pushing hard to enforce the state's ban on cell phone use while driving near Bruceville Road and Laguna Boulevard. The operation was scheduled to begin around 7 a.m., and at least two Twitter users reported seeing the increased police presence.

Twitter user @ElkGroveCA said he spotted two police officers during the operation, while @DennyGomez said he saw three motorcycle officers.
