DUI Checkpoint This Friday

Drunk driving–related collisions are down in Elk Grove, and the police department wants to keep it that way.

Just in time for your pre-Chili Cook Off partying, the Elk Grove Police Department has announced officers will set up a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Elk Grove this Friday night, beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The number of collisions caused by drunk driving is on the decline in Elk Grove, according to the department. Still, over the last three years six people have died and 111 have been injured in the city due to intoxicated drivers.

Police officers will also conduct saturation patrols this Saturday and May 27. What’s a saturation patrol, you ask? That’s when extra officers fan out over the city with the specific goal of finding and citing impaired drivers. They look for signs as obvious as drivers weaving all over the road and as subtle as a car with its windows down when it’s raining out, said department spokesperson Officer Chris Trim.
