Elk Grove Man Accused of Raping Developmentally-Disabled Woman

An Elk Grove resident was arrested yesterday on suspicion of raping a developmentally disabled student aide at a Vallejo elementary school.

Jerry Johnson, 56, is a special education teacher at Loma Vista Elementary School in Vallejo where he teaches pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. The Vallejo Police Department took him into custody Monday in Elk Grove with assistance from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The aide, who assisted with other developmentally-disabled students, is 18-years-old but has the mentality of a seven-year-old, according to a police statement. The statement described the alleged victim as "incapable of consenting due to [her] mental and developmental disabilities."

The alleged sexual assault took place on the elementary school's campus during school hours, according to the statement.

Vallejo police Sergeant Jeff Bassett said Johnson is currently being held at the Solano County Jail in Fairfield.
