Elk Grove Man Pleads Guilty to Child Molestation

District Attorney cites work of Elk Grove police detective in case.

An Elk Grove man has pled guilty to molesting two girls ages nine and 16 over a four-year period, Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully announced Wednesday.

Law enforcement caught up with Bradley Dayley, 40, after he videotaped the sexual assaults he committed between 2005 and 2009 and posted them online.

Sacramento's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force collaborated with the to track down and arrest Dayley, according to a statement from the district attorney's office.

The statement calls Elk Grove Police Detective Kevin Papineau "a true hero" for his role in the arrest of Dayley, who will receive a sentence of 60 years and 8 months to life under the plea agreement.

After receiving a photo of the younger girl from the Task Force in 2009 along with information that she was believed to be in Elk Grove, Papineau worked "tirelessly" for close to a month to identify her, said Elk Grove Police Department spokesperson Chris Trim. He sought help from the school district and local community groups.

"With this type of crime, yes, you want to find person responsible but you have to also protect the identity of the victim," said Trim. "It’s a very fine line; you can’t just go showing photos to everybody."

After Papineau pinpointed the girl's identity, investigators followed the trail to Dayley and discovered there was a second victim, Trim said.

Trim did not disclose Dayley's relationship to the victims but said that both lived in Elk Grove at the time of the assaults.
