Commuters, put away those phones and save the makeup for the office parking lot–the Elk Grove Police Department will be cracking down on distracted drivers Tuesday morning.
The operation will take place near Bruceville Road and Laguna Boulevard, according to the department.
California's ban on cell phone use while driving, which began in 2011, can lead to fines of more than $100, according to the state's Office of Traffic Safety.
"The base fine for the first offense is $20 and $50 for subsequent convictions," the Office of Traffic Safety says on its website. "With penalty assessments, the total ticket cost can be more than triple the base fine amount – a minimum of $159 on a first offense and $279 on subsequent offenses."
