Family Loses Possessions in Vytina Drive Fire; No Injuries

Firefighters quickly extinguished the Monday evening blaze, but not before it caused major damage to the second story of a house.

A fire caused major damage to the second story of a house on Vytina Way Monday evening, but the inhabitants escaped unharmed.

Firefighters arrived at the house in the 8700 block around 5:30, after residents had already evacuated. They closed off the street and by just after 6:00 had the fire under control.

A woman living in the house, who asked not to be identified, said she thought the fire was started by candles she had lit as part of a prayer display.

"We haven't gone in to confirm that yet, but that's what the occupant thinks and we have no reason to think anything else," said Cosumnes Fire Department Battalion Chief Richard Holmes.

Holmes said the house could be remodeled but that it will likely be a while before it is habitable again.
