Fire Kills 2 in Florin Area, Injures Pet Dog

The fire was on French Road, in south Sacramento.

Officials were able to save a pet dog from a house fire Monday morning, but not the two men inside the Florin-area home.

A full press release from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District follows:

At 11:03 am this morning Metro Fire units were dispatched for a reported structure fire on the 7300 block of French Road in Sacramento County.  Units arrived and reported a developed house fire with a report of at least one victim trapped inside.  Immediately crews began an aggressive interior search for victims even while the extreme smoke and heat conditions were developing.  Additional crews were beginning the process of vertical ventilation and stretching hose lines to extinguish the intense fire.  Unfortunately during the primary search crews located two adult male victims of the fire that could not be saved.  Crews did locate a pet dog which suffered some burns to its paws and exposure to the smoke and it was removed from the home.  Sacramento Animal Control was called to take the dog for further treatment.
