An inmate was found dead in his cell Wednesday at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, just south of Elk Grove.
The 33-year-old inmate, who has not been identified, was found unresponsive in his cell around 8:40 a.m., according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
Medical personnel attempted CPR on the man, but were unsuccessful. Outside paramedics arrived and the inmate was pronounced dead inside the facility.
"The victim showed no external signs of trauma, and he had been housed alone in his cell," the sheriff's department said in a press release.
The man had been in custody since March 11, when he was charged with a parole violation, the press release stated.
