Labor Day Sobriety Checkpoint Planned

Elk Grove police will stop drivers to check for impaired drivers and licenses.

The Elk Grove Police Department will be conducting a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint in the city of Elk Grove on September 4, 2011 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers, as well as unlicensed drivers from the roadways. Educational materials covering the dangers of driving under the influence will also be handed out to motorists. The public is encouraged to call the Elk Grove Police Department at (916) 714-5111 (emergency line) or 911 if they observe a suspected impaired driver.

Funding for the sobriety checkpoint is provided through a DUI Enforcement and Awareness Grant that was made available by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
