Man Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Scooter off Freeway Overpass

Thomas Elich, a Sacramento resident, was arrested in Elk Grove last week.

A 32-year-old Sacramento resident was arrested in Elk Grove Friday after police say he threw a metal scooter off the Calvine Road freeway overpass and into the path of traffic on Highway 99.

Thomas Marion Elich, who was found to be on probation, was arrested on charges of throwing objects at vehicles and violating probation, according to an Elk Grove Police Department crime log.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday and was witnessed by an Elk Grove Police officer, the crime log states.

"Several vehicles struck the metal scooter when it landed in the lanes of traffic," the department said.

Elich has since been released from jail, county records show.
