Meet the Newest Elk Grove Police Dog: Exo

The next member of the Elk Grove Police Department comes to the city from a southern California kennel and mainly understands Dutch.

Exo, the city's newest police dog, started a two-to-three-month training program this week with his future partner, K9 Handler Richard Black.

"The dog comes with some level of training, and so his obedience is good," Black said. "We basically take his training and apply to it police work. That's what we work on initially."

The Belgian Malinois is Black's first police dog, and will go home with Black after each day of work and sleep at his home.

After training together for two to three months, Exo will have to be certified by the state to work as a police dog.
