Pair Arrested on Charges of Transporting Drugs for Sale, Child Endangerment

The arrests were made Friday evening in Elk Grove.

Two Elk Grove residents were arrested Friday evening after Elk Grove Police said they were found transporting and possessing drugs for sale, as well as keeping drug paraphernalia in a room they share with their 18-month-old child.

Eric Jose Alcaraz, 34, and Jessica Sanchez, 29, were arrested around 7:45 p.m. Friday at their home on Webb Street, in Old Town Elk Grove.

The drug paraphernalia was found during a search of their home after they were arrested, according to a police department crime log.

The child "was taken into protective custody," the crime log states.

Alcaraz is currently being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail on a felony charge of importing, transporting or selling a controlled substance. His bail is set at $65,000, and he is next due in court on Monday.

Elk Grove Police spokesman Chris Trim said Sanchez has since been released from custody, and declined to comment further on the circumstances of the pair's arrest "due to the ongoing nature of this investigation."
