Victim Identified in Elk Grove Blvd Hit and Run

Jackson Allen Walden, 20, was found lying in the intersection of Elk Grove Blvd and School Street early Saturday morning.

The Sacramento County Coroner has identified the man police believe was killed in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Elk Grove Blvd and School Street early Saturday morning as Jackson Allen Walden, 20, of Wilton.

Police responding to a call from a passerby just before 4:00 a.m. found Walden lying unresponsive in the middle of the intersection, closer to the eastbound lane of Elk Grove Blvd, according to department spokesperson Christopher Trim. He was pronounced dead by medics on the scene.

The nature of Walden's injuries implied a hit-and-run accident, police said in a press release. Trim said investigators don't know exactly where Walden was when he was struck.

"We still do not have a vehicle description or a description of the driver involved," Trim said Saturday evening.

Trim said police had found vehicle debris on Elk Grove Blvd, but didn't know if it was related to the collision or was already on the road.

Owners of businesses along Elk Grove Blvd interviewed by Elk Grove Patch said they were unable to provide police with much help, since the accident apparently took place at such an early hour.

Kelley McClain, who owns near the scene of the collision, said she was surprised to wake up and see her store on the news.

"It's just saddening—he was somebody's son," said McClain, who said she has a 21-year-old son of her own. She said she was hopeful a witness would come forward.

"On this street, I don't care what time of the morning, there's always cars," she said. "This town's so small; it's just a matter of time before we find them."

Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call the Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau at (916) 478-8148 or leave an anonymous tip at Crime Alert, (916) 443-HELP.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that the victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. In fact, he was pronounced dead by medics on the scene.
