Shooting Outside Bowling Alley; Victims Leave Before Cops Arrive

A shooting took place outside Pins N Strikes while police were on their way because of calls about a fight.

Two people were shot outside the Laguna Boulevard bowling alley Pins N Strikes early Sunday morning, police say.

Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Officer Chris Trim said officers were called to the business' parking lot around 12:45 a.m. Sunday because of a disturbance involving a group of "teenagers and young adults."

"While officers were responding, additional calls came in indicating that a shooting had taken place," Trim said in an email. "When officers arrived the victims were gone."

Trim said police learned the two victims had been driven to the hospital. Both were in their late teens or early 20s, he said.

"One male suffered a single gunshot wound to the ankle and a female suffered several gunshot wounds," Trim said, adding that the female was shot in the arm and hip area. "The injuries were not life threatening."

Police do not have a suspect or motive for the shootings, and have made no arrests, Trim said.

The Laguna Boulevard bowling alley where this incident took place has seen violence before. In March of 2011, a large fight sent four to the hospital. A few months later, a man was taunted with homophobic slurs before being assaulted in the parking lot.

The bowling alley's former owner "walked away from the business" before it was taken over and rebranded by its landlord, the Sacramento Business Journal reported in December of 2011.
