Swimmer Dies in Laguna West Lake; Alcohol Blamed in Accident

The Cosumnes Fire Department found the man early Monday morning.

A 26-year-old man was found submerged in 10 feet of water in a residential lake in Elk Grove overnight, authorities say.

The Cosumnes Fire Department responded to the Laguna West-area lake, located off Buckminster Drive, after midnight Monday morning.

Rescue boats were put into the lake, and eventually found the man in "zero visibility water," the fire department said on Twitter.

The 26-year-old was taken to a local hospital while first-responders performed CPR, and he later died at the hospital.

"Alcohol was a factor in this incident," the fire department said.

The man's name has not yet been released.
