Teen Crashes After Allegedly Fleeing Police

A 17-year-old driver allegedly tried to escape from Elk Grove Police, and crashed in the process.

A 17-year-old Sacramento resident led authorities on a chase through Elk Grove before crashing the Toyota he was driving and being arrested, several media outlets are reporting.

The Sacramento Bee said Elk Grove Police tried to stop a Toyota Camry seen speeding on Sheldon Road near Elk Grove-Florin Road around 5 p.m.

The Bee and KCRA reported that the driver fled from police, and attempted to merge onto southbound Highway 99 but was unable to make the turn.

The suspect hit an SUV and a commuter van with six passengers, and his car burst inflo flames, according to News10.

The teen ran from the scene, but was caught by a police dog, the Bee reported.

One of the passengers in the commuter van was injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital, the news outlets said.
