Trio Arrested After Allegedly Being Found with Stolen Gun

Carlos Lopez, Ernesto Chavez and an unnamed 17-year-old were arrested in Elk Grove Thursday.

Two teenagers and a 21-year-old were arrested in Elk Grove Thursday after authorities say they were found with a stolen gun. Two of them also had warrants out for their arrest.

They were stopped around 12:45 p.m. while driving on Laguna Springs Drive, according to an Elk Grove Police Department crime log. Sacramento resident Carlos Daniel Lopez, 19, was driving and was found to have a warrant out for his arrest on misdemeanor charges of buying or receiving stolen property.

His passenger, 21-year-old Ernesto Chavez of Sacramento, was wanted on felony drug charges.

In the backseat of the car was a 17-year-old boy from Elk Grove hiding a fixed-blade knife in his waistband, according to the crime log. A loaded gun that had been reported stolen was found in the rear armrest near where the 17-year-old had been sitting, the crime log states.

Lopez, who was found to be a validated street gang member, was found with a bullet that matched the ammunition in the gun, the police department said.

The trio was arrested, with Lopez and Chavez being taken to the Sacramento County Main Jail and the 17-year-old being taken to juvenile hall. 

Lopez is being held on his warrant as well as gang participation, gun and stolen property charges; his bail is set at $110,500 and he is due in court Monday. Chavez is being held on his warrant and charges similar to Lopez's; he's also due in court Monday.
