Woman Carjacked at Gunpoint in Elk Grove

A woman sitting in her car in the 9600 block of Bruceville Road was carjacked by an armed man, police say.

A 19-year-old woman was carjacked by an armed man Monday afternoon in Elk Grove, police say.

The victim was sitting in her car with the window rolled down around noon in the 9600 block of Bruceville Road, according to an Elk Grove Police Department crime log.

An unknown man came up to the car and put his arm on the window so the woman couldn't roll it up, then showed her a handgun wrapped in cloth, police say.

The suspect pushed the victim into the driver's seat, drove a short distance until another car honked at him, then stopped and told the woman to get out of the car, the crime log states. The suspect also took the woman's cell phone before driving away, police say.

According to the crime log, the suspect is described as "a Hispanic male adult, 6-foot-1, 250 pounds, with brown eyes and long hair in a pony tail. He was wearing a blue short sleeve shirt, white collared T-shirt, blue denim pants and white shoes."

The victim's vehicle is a maroon 2002 Mitsubishi Galant, California license plate No. 5EEW575. The car's right rear is dented and the car has a "Baby on Board" sign in the rear window.

Anyone with information on the crime can call the department at (916) 627-3333 or report a tip online.

If you couldn't get a picture of the victim's actual car, wouldn't it be better to post at least a picture of a car of the same color? Someone who reads this and could potentially have a key tip later could be confused remembering seeing a silver car in the photo about the carjacking when in fact, the victim's car was maroon.

Just another "scumbag" in Elk Grove! "Can't we all just get along?"
Cody Kitaura (Editor) January 29, 2013 at 10:20 pm
Ron, initially I wasn't able to find a public domain photo of a maroon Galant, but after some more searching I found one that (I think) is the right color. Thanks for the comment, and your point is well taken.

Please post updates on this story. I want to know when they catch this guy.
Elk Grove Veteran January 30, 2013 at 10:06 am
Probably an illegal who won't even get punished because the system is so flooded with them.
Kristi Garrett January 30, 2013 at 02:12 pm
This woman was VERY lucky that the man let her out. Just a reminder that if you are ever hijacked like that, do everything in your power to get out of the car. NEVER submit to driving away with a gunman. Bullet holes can be fixed. But not once you've been driven to a remote spot.

It is just me, or in last the last week pretty some violent crimes have been in Elk Grove news? Pregnant woman gets hit with bat, florist robbed at gun point and now what appears to be a very frightening carjacking.
Maybe we should have kept quiet about Elk Grove being below average on the recent crime stats reported.
Jacqueline Cheung January 30, 2013 at 04:01 pm
You're saying its an illegal just because it says he's Hispanic? Why don't we hold on the racist and nationalistic remarks until we know the truth. Not all illegal immigrants are criminals. This guy could easily have been born in the U.S. and just took a wrong path somewhere in his life.

Jacqueline, THANK YOU SO MUCH for responding directly to 'Elk Grove Veteran.' Unfortunately, I'm unable to respond directly to them at the moment (but plan to do so tonight) and just wanted to share with you that I felt immediately better upon seeing your response. I completely feel the same way you do. It blows me away how so many people can be so hateful and discriminatory. I pray for the day when everyone is simply recognized for being a HUMAN. Thanks again and have a good rest of the day!

We need more high quality cameras in our public areas.

Castle01, you're more than welcome. To stereotype that just because the person who committed this particular crime is Hispanic that it's "probably an illegal" is just wrong. And by the way Elk Grove Veteran, in case you haven't been reading the news lately, the number of Hispanics in California is projected to outnumber Caucasians by the end of 2013. Not everybody Hispanic is going to be illegal. And not everybody who commits a crime is going to be illegal.
Elk Grove Veteran January 31, 2013 at 10:01 am
I said probably, meaning using statistics. I am in no way racist, just basing my guess on a statistical fact that the majority of crimes in California committed by Hispanics happen to be non citizen Hispanics. Stating the truth in no way makes me racist. I believe all races are equal.
Elk Grove Veteran January 31, 2013 at 12:06 pm
Jaquelin Cheung,, you posted earlier that "not all illegals are criminals" entering the US illegaly is a crime, so yes, they are all criminals. Im not saying they are less human, or even bad people. Again, stating the facts does not make me a racist.
Jacqueline Cheung January 31, 2013 at 05:04 pm
Fine, let me quantify my statement. Not all illegal immigrants disobey civil laws or break civil laws once they are in this country. Not all illegal immigrants have multiple arrest records or are the criminals that you make them out to be. Please see the case Kansas vs Nicholas Martinez. The ruling in this case which was upheld by the Kansas Court of Appeals said "While Congress has criminalized illegal entry into this country, it has not made the continued presence of an illegal alien in the United States a crime unless the illegal alien has previously been deported and has again entered this country illegally." Elk Grove Veteran, there is no evidence that illegal immigrants commit more crime or rampantly disobey more civil laws than United States citizens. This is a false and discrimnatory notion. Please post some real statistics from a credible source (not a blog), such as a federal or state agency, which upholds your notion that the majority of crimes in California are committed by illegal immigrants or non-citizen Hispanics.

For an being and Elk Grove Veteran this is pretty grim that you would put yourself in such a low place. Hope this make's you feel good about yourself. And I will stop here to not stoop to your level.
Elk Grove Veteran February 1, 2013 at 07:27 pm
I never "made anyone out to be " a criminal. I simply made a guess that the suspect who is known to be Hispanic, was most likely an illegal alien. I never even wrote anything about illegals committing more crimes than citizens. I did however write that among crimes committed by Hispanics, that the majority of them are done by illegal alien Hispanics. This is a statistical fact. Please visit the FBI web site and research crime statistics. Or just google it and I'm Shure you will find a site that you consider a credible source. I'm not trying to be hateful, but I will stand up for myself when someone calls me a racist. I am not, and again, stating the facts is not racist.
Jacqueline Cheung February 2, 2013 at 07:44 am
Elk Grove Veteran, go ahead and keep telling yourself that you are not racist. Please google ethnocentric racism. Do you really think that anything you have said has convinced me or anybody else here otherwise?
Elk Grove Veteran February 2, 2013 at 10:12 am
Although some of my spelling may lead you to believe otherwise, I do have an education. I am familiar with the term. I do not need to google it. It is unfortunate you have shown ongoing hatred toward me. Is that how you treat someone for making a guess as to someone's citizenship status? And then you label me? You don't know me, and you are wrong about me. Maybe I'll see you around, but I will no longer respond to someone who is so obviously blinded by their liberalism. You have turned a news commentary into a personal attack against someone you know nothing about. All you know is that my comment did not make you feel good. I'm not here to hurt anyone, just trying to give my point of view. Have a great day!
Jacqueline Cheung February 3, 2013 at 01:35 am
Elk Grove Veteran, that's hilarious. Expressing my opinion that you are an ethnocentric racist doesn't mean I have hatred. If anything, my intent is to inform and educate. If you don't want to hear it, then go ahead and believe whatever you want to believe. If you say people are expressing hatred everytime they don't agree with you, you're not going to get very far in this life. I'm totally fine with the fact that we don't agree with regard to views about Hispanics and illegals committing crimes. You think that most Hispanics who commit crimes are illegal. I don't think this is the case and I think that you are criminalizing Hispanics. There are plenty of hard working, law abiding people of Hispanic descent who are not citizens of this country but who are not breaking any civil laws and are not a menace to society. The continued presence of an illegal alien in the United States is not a crime unless the illegal alien has previously been deported and has again entered this country illegally. (State of Kansas versus Nicholas Martinez). I don't care what you think about me. You can call me whatever you want. And I stand by my aforementioned comments. If you don't want people responding to your comments, then think more carefully about what you post. You didn't hurt me Elk Grove Veteran. I'm not illegal or Hispanic. But I would imagine that your comment made a bunch of Hispanic people or illegal people feel like crap. Go ahead and make your peace with that.
Mcm February 3, 2013 at 01:31 pm
I agree with the racist comment. I don't think he was an illegal alien because their only about 5'2" not 6'1"

I can, figuratively speaking, see a Native American chief sitting on a white horse at a point overlooking the City of Elk Grove and what it is becoming, with tears running down his cheecks. So sad.

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team.
