Would-Be Burglars Caught in the Act, Police Say

The Elk Grove Police Department arrested three burglary suspects Tuesday.

Three people attempted to rob an Elk Grove home Tuesday morning but were caught in the act and arrested, police say.

Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Officer Chris Trim said a man living on Colton Avenue called police around 11 a.m., saying his girlfriend had locked herself in a bedroom and text messaged him to say someone was breaking into their home.

"Officers arrived at the residence and detained one suspect at the location," Trim said in an email. "Two other suspects fled from the residence in opposite directions."

The home is directly behind Joseph Kerr Middle School, which was placed on lockdown as officers looked for the remaining suspects.

The other two suspects were arrested shortly after: one was found near the post office on Williamson Drive, while the other was hiding under a nearby parked car, Trim said.

"A vehicle the suspects arrived in was found in the driveway of the residence, and the resident’s car was parked directly behind the suspect vehicle which prevented them from leaving," Trim said.
