3 Elk Grove Residents Get Gov. Appointments

Three Elk Grove residents now have state positions paying more than $100,000.

Gov. Jerry Brown appointed three Elk Grove residents to various state positions this week and last, according to his office's official website.

Jim Butler, 47, was appointed to the Department of General Services' Chief Procurement Officer, Deputy Director of Procurement.

He has worked for that department since 2008 and will now make $149,496, a press release states.

"Butler was director of procurement services at Levi Strauss and Company from 2002 to 2007, senior manager at Dell Computer Corporation from 1996 to 2001 and manager of client support at Asia Pacific Ventures from 1993 to 1996," the release says.

Last week, Brown appointed 47-year-old Liane Morgan to California Housing Finance Agency Chief Information Officer.

"She has served as acting chief information officer and acting information security officer since 2010," a press release states. "She has served in multiple positions at the California Housing Finance Agency since 1987, including senior programmer analyst supervisor."

She will now be paid $137,496.

Also last week, 46-year-old Norman Williams was appointed as the Deputy Director for the Office of Public Affairs at the California Department of Health Care Services.

Williams, a former Sacramento Bee reporter, will now make $114,024.

"He has served as deputy director for the office of public affairs [at the California Department of Health Care Services] since 2007," a press release states. "Williams was the director of communications for Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi in 2007. He served as assistant deputy commissioner to Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi from 2003 to 2007."

None of these appointments require confirmation by the state senate.
