Behind the Scenes at the Sacramento County Elections Office (PHOTOS)

Check out our pics taken at the Sacramento County Elections Office while awaiting results Tuesday night.

While the election is over for the majority of Sacramentans who cast their ballot Tuesday, the tedious work of counting and verifying vote-by-mail and provisional ballots continues.

Workers at the Sacramento County Elections Office, located on 65th Street, are processing the estimated 193,000 ballots left to verify and process, according to a news release.

Of those, 162,000 are vote-by-mail ballots, and 31,000 are polling place provisional ballots, according to the elections office. There are more vote-by-mail ballots than ever before, said Campaign Services Manager Brad Buyse. (The 2008 election saw 55,000 vote-by-mail ballots—a record for the time.)

The next ballot count update will be available Friday at 3 p.m. here

While at the Elections Office Tuesday night awaiting results, we snapped some photos of workers counting and processing ballots. During election season, the office goes from 38 full-time employees to up to 2,400 throughout the county on Election Day, Buyse said.
