Bera to Hold Celebration in Elk Grove Sunday

'Volunteer appreciation party' planned for two days after Bera's opponent conceded in the Congressional race.

Since Elk Grove resident Ami Bera earlier this week announced plans for a volunteer appreciation party, he's received a lot more news to celebrate.

Bera's tight contest against Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) for a seat in Congress was called by the Associated Press on Thursday, and Lungren conceded on Friday.

Bera will celebrate with volunteers Sunday at his campaign's Elk Grove office.

"Our amazing volunteers made the difference in this election," Bera's campaign said in a flier for the event. "Please join us to celebrate your hard work!"

The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 7803 Laguna Blvd., Suite 200.

Not sure if I'll go, but I did do a few afternoons of canvassing for Bera. Glad to be in the winner's circle this time. Also worked with Bill Durston who ran against Lundgren previously, but he didn't have the redistricting going for him. Thanks to Bill for leading the battle up to this one.

I'll try to come by for a few minutes just to congratulate Dr. Bera. I'm so happy for him and us. I didn't do much in the way of volunteering but I did contribute financially a few times.

Will Ami renew my medical marijuana recommendation if I bring the expiring one with me on Sunday ? It's great to see Lundgren be replaced by someone who supports the medical use of marijuana & who'll be a vocal advocate for us in Congress !

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.
