Bera Will Hire Disabled Vet to Work With Area Veterans

Rep. Ami Bera (D-Elk Grove) is hiring a "wounded warrior" to facilitate requests from local veterans.

The congressman's office is looking for a field representative and caseworker; the person will handle responses to veteran requests and be a liaison with area veteran groups, according to a press release.

"I recently had the incredible privilege of meeting with some of our troops in Afghanistan and was able to witness firsthand the bravery and professionalism of our American military,” the press release quoted Bera as saying. “It is an honor to be able to add one of our nation’s brave service members to my dedicated staff, and an excellent opportunity for the men and women who served our nation in the Armed Forces to continue their public service and learn about the options available to them as they transition to civilian life.”

Eligible Sacramento County disabled veterans encouraged to apply


U.S. Rep. Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-7) today announced that the House of Representatives Wounded Warrior Program is accepting applications for a position in his district office in Rancho Cordova. He urged eligible disabled veterans in Sacramento County to apply.

The available position is a field representative and caseworker who would be responsible for facilitating and coordinating responses to a wide range of requests received from military and veteran constituents and would serve as a liaison between the Congressman’s office and various veterans’ organizations in the district. The Wounded Warrior Program was established to create fellowships that provide employment opportunities within the House of Representatives. The fellowships will provide veterans with experience and exposure to ultimately broaden their scope of transition opportunities. Positions are available in congressional district offices nationwide.

According to the Wounded Warrior Program, applicants must have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, have a 30 percent or greater service-connected disability rating, and have fewer than 20 years of service. In addition to a current resume, applicants must submit a copy of their DD214 and a VA letter confirming that they have at least a 30 percent service-connected disability rating to housewoundedwarriors@mail.house.gov.
