CarMax Store Approved Near Elk Grove

Construction on the 19-acre development is set to begin in 2013.

Massive used car seller CarMax will soon have a location near Elk Grove.

Sacramento County officials approved a 19-acre CarMax Auto Superstore at 8105 - 8141 East Stockton Blvd., near Calvine Road and Highway 99.

"This project will add to the County’s economic base within the South Sacramento community and generate much needed sales tax revenue," a press release quoted District 2 Supervisor Jimmie Yee as saying. "With easy access to the freeways, this is an ideal site for car sales."

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013, and will take place in two phases: The first will be a 20,000 square-foot sales building, a service building, a car wash and the parking lot. The second phase will expand the service building and car wash.

The South Sacramento Community Planning Advisory Council voted unanimously in favor of the project, the press release states.

It is a shame that Elk Grove didn't take advantage of a CarMax when asked years ago. I bought my Mom her car there over five years ago, and was told that many people sell their car to CarMax; then go to the Roseville Automall and buy a new car. Buying local is very important when we can. When I bought my new car, though they didn't want to, I had Niello BMW Fulton Avenue drive the car I picked out to Niello BMW Elk Grove so that the sales tax were spent here. I hope this CarMax doesn't take away from the Elk Grove Automall. That would be a shame!

The Elk Grove Auto Mall was opposed to it at the time.

Yep, Sarah, right again! Well, we can only hope that people will sell their cars at CarMax, get the cash, take 99 South to Elk Grove Blvd. and buy a new car at one of our Elk Grove Automall dealerships!

Apparently they only deal in used cars? I didn't know that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CarMax

Finally we get something big around here. However, carmax's cars are still overpriced so I believe the elk grove auto mall still has a chance. Plus, carmax can not certify a car for extended warranty.

and then go to a restuarant, do some shopping and see a movie!

Haha this is turning into quite the local business formula! So I take it you two don't think this new store will detract too much from Elk Grove? (it seems like a pretty important issue, since most of the city's revenue comes from sales tax, and so much of that comes from the automall)

Carmax can certify cars with an extended warranty. Check your facts people.

Yes thank God CarMax does have a certify warranty b/c I just had over $5,000 worth of engine work done & after I pay it off I'll never buy from CarMax - just bought it & had a lot of issues. The service Dept is closed too early & is only m-Friday sucks!

Seems like for 5K you could have just purchased a new engine!
