Elk Grove Mayor Jim Cooper on Wednesday made his bid for reelection to the Elk Grove City Council official, and joined the field of candidates vying to be the city's first directly elected mayor.
Both men pulled papers to be nominated to the ballot, according to an email from City Clerk Jason Lindgren.
Cooper will run against , who ran unsuccessfully against Council Member Gary Davis in 2010.
Higley is now one of six candidates seeking the mayor's seat: also running are , , LaWanna Montgomery, and Charles S. Shanks.
Each candidate must submit a form with 20 signatures nominating them to run before they can appear on the ballot.
