Elk Grove Election Guide: November 2012

The candidates, issues and races affecting Elk Grove in the general election this fall.

As we look ahead to November’s elections, Elk Grove Patch is devoted to bring you the information you need about every race in town. Here's our start on the candidates and issues we'll be covering as November draws near.

Elk Grove Mayor: This fall, Elk Grove will elect a mayor for the first time in its history. So far, candidates for the two-year position include Jerry Braxmeyer, , and Sophia Scherman.

Elk Grove City Council District 1: One of two city council seats up for election this fall, District 1 is made mostly of areas north of Elk Grove Boulevard, west of Bruceville Road and south of Laguna Boulevard. It's currently represented by Jim Cooper.

Elk Grove City Council District 3: One of two city council seats up for election this fall, District 3 is made mostly of areas between Franklin Boulevard and Elk Grove-Florin Road, and north of Laguna Boulevard. Other areas are also included; it's currently represented by Steve Detrick.

Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors: Three seats on the five-member board are up for election this November.

Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education: Four of the seven seats on the school district's board will be up for election in the general election: Area 1, currently held by William Lugg; Area 3, currently held by Chet Madison;  ; Area 7, currently held by Al Rowlett. Pollyanna Cooper-LeVangie, who represents Area 4, also .

California Assembly District 9: This state race goes to a . Pan currently serves in the Assembly in another district.

U.S. House of Representatives District 7: This Congressional race is between Democrat and Elk Grove resident and . .

Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.
