The Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees plans to appoint a replacement to fill the vacant Area 4 seat next month, forgoing a costly special election, according to a statement released by the district.
Pollyanna Cooper-LeVangie resigned from the school board earlier this month because she moved to Fair Oaks.
The school board decided in June to fill the vacancy by appointment, rather than spend $400,000 to $800,000 on a special election.
Applications for the open spot must be submitted by 5 p.m. July 25, and should include a resume and up to two letters of recommendation. An essay, no longer than three pages, outlining experience and reasons for serving on the school board, should also be included.
A committee will screen the applications, and trustees will interview finalists during an open special meeting Aug. 16.
The appointed trustee will serve on the school board until the next regularly scheduled election in November 2014.
Applications for the open spot should be submitted to the President of the Board of Education at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center, 9510 Elk Grove-Florin Road.
