Fallen Animal Control Officer to be Honored May 10

The family of slain Animal Control Officer Roy Marcum and Galt Police Officer Kevin Tonn will be honored during the 14th-Annual Public Safety and Community Appreciation Breakfast.

A Sacramento County Animal Control officer killed in an unprovoked attack in November will be honored by local law enforcement officials in two weeks.

, was shot through the closed door of a foreclosed home in Galt, where he was supposed to be picking up animals left behind after an eviction.

He'll be remembered during the 14th-Annual Public Safety and Community Appreciation Breakfast, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on May 10 at the Doubletree Hotel Sacramento, 2001 Point West Way.

"This year’s event will continue a valued Sacramento tradition of bringing public safety members together with public and elected officials, business and community leaders, and individual citizens to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of those who help to keep our region safe," a flier for the event states

It's hosted by Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully, along with Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones and various local police chiefs.

Marcum's family will be honored, as will the family of slain Galt Police Officer Kevin Tonn, wounded Sheriff's Department deputies and a Sacramento Police K9 who was injured last year and underwent surgery in the Rosemont area.
