Gary Davis is Elected Elk Grove Mayor (Video)

The City Council member won by a wide margin.

Update, 12:45 a.m.: With all 101 precincts counted, Elk Grove City Council Member Gary Davis has been elected mayor by a wide margin. He captured nearly half of the votes cast in the city.

Sophia Scherman, his closest challenger, received 14 percent of the vote. She was nearly tied with third-place finisher Jerry Braxmeyer, while Lynn Wheat was about a percentage point back.

LaWanna Montgomery and Greg Higley finished in fifth and sixth places, respectively.

Original story: Elk Grove City Council Member Gary Davis has declared victory in the city's mayoral race, claiming 49 percent of votes among the 50 percent of votes counted so far.

"We have a mandate from Elk Grove voters," Davis said at his campaign office on Laguna Boulevard. "Our priorities are what they're looking for in the elected mayor of Elk Grove."

Davis gave a brief victory speech and supporters tossed confetti into the air.

Jerry Braxmeyer, the only other candidate holding an election-night celebration, said before the polls closed that he was happy with the race regardless of the outcome.

"We're victorious no matter what," Braxmeyer said at his celebration at Logan's Roadhouse on West Stockton Boulevard.

Candidates Greg Higley and Lynn Wheat could not be reached for comment. Elk Grove City Council Member Sophia Scherman and LaWanna Montgomery answered calls but asked to be called back later; further attempts to reach them have been unsuccessful.

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.
