Give Your Input on the SOI Tuesday

Sacramento LAFCO will hold a public meeting in Elk Grove to discuss the possible environmental impacts of expanding Elk Grove's Sphere of Influence.

Local residents have several chances in the coming weeks to make their opinions known about a bid to expand Elk Grove's Sphere of Influence (SOI) by 8,000 acres.

After revising a document that examines the environmental impact of the proposed expansion, officials will ask residents for their input at a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Wackford Aquatic Complex, 9014 Bruceville Road.

Then, the Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) will hold a public hearing on the revised environmental document at 5:30 p.m. on May 1 in the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Chambers, 700 H St.

The public can comment on the 632-page document, which examines possible impacts on pollution, transportation, noise and other areas, until May 21.

The previous document was criticized for not addressing "biological and agricultural resource issues, growth-inducing effects and more," according to the Sacramento Bee.

The city's Sphere of Influence is the area it could consider annexing in the future, and Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis has said it could provide space for future job growth.
