New Bridge Opens Thursday; Rain Cancels Ceremony

The Longleaf Drive roadway and bridge project will open Thursday.

A new bridge will open in Elk Grove this week, but fanfare and a ribbon-cutting will be replaced by rainy weather.

The city planned to celebrate the opening of the Longleaf Bridge and Roadway, but had to cancel the event because of rain.

Here's the original press release:

Longleaf Drive Roadway & Bridge Grand Opening

Crews are wrapping up construction, and the new Longleaf Drive roadway and bridge will soon be open to motorists, bikers, runners and walkers. Please join us for a grand opening celebration of the new roadway and bridge.  Located just south of Laguna Blvd. off of Laguna Springs Drive, the new Longleaf Drive roadway and bridge project promotes economic development in Elk Grove, and connects to beautiful local trails, creeks and wildlife.

The celebration will mark the completion of a new vehicular bridge over Elk Grove Creek and pedestrian and biker-friendly amenities that include bike lanes, an extended bike trail, and pedestrian overlooks that offer dramatic views of Elk Grove grassland wildlife.  The new project also improves access to local businesses, restaurants and stores, as well as the California Correctional Health Care Services and Sutter Health facilities.  Longleaf Drive also connects Laguna Springs Drive and Big Horn Blvd.

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.
