Old Town Elk Grove Triennial Update Community Meeting Set For Nov. 14

The following is a press release from the city of Elk Grove:

The City of Elk Grove will host a community meeting on Nov. 14 about the Old Town Elk Grove Special Planning Area document.

A Special Planning Area, or SPA, is a master planning document that regulates properties within a defined area having unique environmental, historic, architectural or other features which require special conditions not provided through the application of standard zone regulations.

The City updates the Old Town SPA every three years and completed the most recent update in May 2010. The 2010 update resulted in significant, effective changes to the document including modifications to the land use, parking and signs sections.  During the 2010 workshops participants also developed vision statements addressing land use, site design, signs, and architecture standards.

Because of the last extensive update, it is expected that minimal changes will occur in 2014.  Changes may include clarifying and updating the noticing requirement and other existing items so that they are easier to implement.

The upcoming community meeting provides Elk Grove residents with an opportunity to give feedback on changes recommended by the City and to solicit any additional changes.  Modifications to the SPA will ultimately shape the future of development in Old Town; therefore, public input is vital to maintaining a plan that meets the needs of those who live in, work in and visit Elk Grove.

The community meeting will be held on Nov. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at in the community room at the Elk Grove Library, located at 8900 Elk Grove Boulevard.

Community feedback gathered at this meeting will be considered by City staff when drafting final changes to the Old Town SPA.  There will be a second opportunity for public comment in January 2014 once the revised draft document is available.
