Outspoken Teens Wanted for City's Youth Commission

The commission's 10 members advise Elk Grove's city council and the community on issues important to youth.

The City of Elk Grove is looking to fill two vacancies on its Youth Commission, which keeps the City Council and the community informed on issues important to young people in Elk Grove.

This year, the Commission held a , including the hot-button issues of online harassment and sexting. Members have also put together stress-management workshops for teens and videos on substance abuse.

"Joining the city's youth commission is a great opportunity for teens interested in learning about the functions of local government," said Angela Frost, the grown-up who advises the commission and also works as a management analyst for the city.

"We tackle global topics and issues of concern to teens right now. In this town, our council pays great attention to the youth and wants to hear their concerns."

Commissioners, who must be between 13 and 18 years old, meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at . Meetings will resume next fall after a summer break.
