Scherman to Hold Campaign Rally Saturday

Elk Grove City Council member Sophia Scherman is running to represent the new 9th Assembly District.

Elk Grove City Council member Sophia Scherman will hold a rally at Steve's Pizza Saturday in her bid to represent the new 9th Assembly District, which includes Elk Grove.

Volunteers will stop by the W. Stockton Blvd restaurant to pick up campaign literature and lawn signs between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Scherman, a Republican and self-described conservative, will face off in the June primary against Democratic Assemblymember Richard Pan and two challengers from her own party, Tony Amador of Lodi and Edward Nemeth of Elk Grove.

Elk Grove Democrat Tom Santos is also in the race, along with C.T. Weber of the Peace and Freedom Party.

Elk Grove Mayor Jim Cooper publicly endorsed Pan, who represents the current 5th Assembly District, during his State of the City speech last month—drawing indignant reactions from the Assemblymember's Republican opponents.
