Update: Six Candidates Remain for City Council Vacancy Left by Davis

The candidates for a city council appointment will meet in a forum this weekend.

Out of 10 people who at one point applied for a vacant seat on the Elk Grove City Council, six remain in the running.

The Elk Grove City Council will appoint one of those six to fill the District 4 seat vacated by now-Mayor Gary Davis.

The applicants will appear at a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters at 6 p.m. on Saturday. It will be held in the City Council Chambers, 8400 Laguna Palms Way.

After two candidates withdrew their names from the running and two were found to not be living in District 4, the remaining candidates are:

  • Edward J. Busuttil, a San Joaquin County Asisstant District Attorney
  • Nancy D. Chaires, an Elk Grove Planning Commissioner
  • David Conner, the CEO of RECON Networking, Inc.
  • LaWanna Montgomery, a recent mayoral candidate
  • Oscar O'con, a business consultant who is involved in several Elk Grove organizations
  • Jeffrey Sherwood Owen, a youth soccer coach and Vice President of Operations at School Innovations & Advocacy

The council will meet on Jan. 9, and could appoint a new council member then.

I certainly hope the public is able to participate in the forum. I have some key questions for Montgomery, a woman I believe lacks moral character. "I don’t want to say all of what I would do and then look and see someone else doing it." That's a direct quote from a a recent interview when she was asked what she would do if elected mayor. If it's a good idea, she should applaud its consideration and/or implementation, regardless of who runs with it. The statement was to me indicative of someone who lacks the selflessness required to work well with others. The Reach Learning Center's web site is riddled with typographical and grammatical errors, but she claims to have tutored (was it hundreds or thousands?) of children. She played a race card in the same referenced interview; a card that was not played in her report to police. Don't know much about the other candidates, but I would be looking for the same character traits that I expect of all public servants.

Isn't this the same person who was seen destroying the campaigh signs of her opponents in the last election? Copy and Paste the following address in your browser to see the article reported in the Elk Grove Citizen. http://www.egcitizen.com/articles/2012/08/06/news/doc5020476716ff1758841044.txt Although the charges were not pursued by the Sacramento County DA, she reportedly was cited by the police for vandalism based on the testimoney of two witnesses to the incident. See the following story for the details: http://www.egcitizen.com/articles/2012/08/31/news/doc5040f542574ed549477881.txt If this is the same person and I think it is, then I think we can do better.
