By the Numbers: Middle and High Schools in West Elk Grove
After last week's discussion on Laguna Creek High School, we pulled together some data on select middle and high schools in Elk Grove.
Amy Carson’s recent on Laguna Creek High School generated an outpouring of comments about the quality of education at that school and others on the west side of Elk Grove. So we thought we’d throw a few hard numbers into the mix. The charts below draw on the most recent data available from the California Department of Education and the Elk Grove Unified School District.
The Academic Performance Index (API) is calculated based on state test scores and can range from 200 to a high of 1000. We included the percentage of students of poverty at each school because that’s often an indication of challenges at home that can affect students’ academic performance.
You can do your own research by downloading School Accountability Report Cards from the district website. The California Department of Education’s DataQuest service also contains a wealth of information on individual schools.
