School District Budget Update Planned for June 5

The Elk Grove Unified School District's budget is prepared for the November tax initiative to fail.

The is bracing for a worsening budget next year, but it isn't quite sure what to expect.

The district's board of education will next week receive an update on its preliminary adopted budget for the 2012-13 school year, as well as the state's upcoming budget.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. on June 5 at the district headquarters, 9510 Elk Grove-Florin Rd.

The school district's budget for next school year plans for Gov. Jerry Brown's tax measure to fail, which would take $441 from the district for each of its "average daily attendance" students.

"Staff will continue to monitor actions at the state level, evaluate new information as it is known and adjust the budget accordingly," a staff report for next week's meeting states.

The Elk Grove Citizen previously reported that the district planned to use about $30 million in reserves to balance next year's budget.
