EGUSD receives $6.7 million after-school programs grant

The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) has been awarded a $6.7 million, five-year 21st Century Community Learning Center grant to support after school programs at twelve elementary schools.

EGUSD will receive over $1.3 million annually, for five years, to deliver academic support, enrichment programs and family literacy services for children and families who are currently on after school program waiting lists.  21st Century Community Learning Centers are federal programs that are awarded by the California Department of Education (CDE) through a highly-competitive grant process.  With only $15 million in available funding, the CDE received $460 million in applications, making EGUSD one of only 18 districts statewide to receive this grant.

The 21st Century Learning Center grant will expand EGUSD’s highly successful after school program model that brings together rigorous academic support, engaging and enriching activities, and parent and family outreach and education services.  Programs are offered through strong support from school sites and partnerships with community organizations.

The 21st Century Community Learning Center grant will serve over 900 children and their families at the following twelve elementary schools:

Florin Elementary School

Isabelle Jackson Elementary School

Samuel Kennedy Elementary School

Anna Kirchgater Elementary School

Herman Leimbach Elementary School

Charles Mack Elementary School

Barbara Comstock Morse Elementary School

Prairie Elementary School

David Reese Elementary School

John Reith Elementary School

Sierra Enterprise Elementary School

Union House Elementary School

“The 21st Century grant will allow us to expand after school programs at  these schools to serve more students that are on the waiting list,” says Mark Vigario, director of Learning Support Services for the district.  “The grant will allow us to reach more students to provide them with one-to-one help with homework, focused instruction in areas of need and enrichment activities they would not normally be exposed to.”

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.
