Thursday is the day that the U.S. women's soccer team is scheduled to head out on the field at Wembley Stadium in London — a world epicenter for soccer — to go for Olympic gold, with a former Elk Grove club soccer player on the team.
Thursday's match, which is currently in progress, is a rematch of the same rivalry — U.S. vs. Japan — in last year's World Cup final. Japan triumphed in that game on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the end of 120 minutes.
, is a member of Team USA, which has since July 25 through a string of victories to reach the point where the U.S. women's team has a shot at Olympic gold.
