'Walk to Remember' Raises Money for Scholarships

Saturday's annual event honors Army SFC Bryan Hall, an Elk Grove native killed in Iraq in 2009.

Patch readers may remember Betty Hall from on the enduring impact of September 11 on our communities.

Hall's son, Army Sgt. First Class Bryan Hall, was killed in a 2009 suicide bombing attack in Mosul, Iraq along with four other U.S. soldiers. This Saturday, the Hall family will hold their third annual 5K 'Walk to Remember' at in his honor.

"The important thing is not only to remember Bryan and those four who were killed with him but to honor all those who have served and are currently serving and create awareness of what these men and women are doing to preserve our freedom," Betty Hall said.

Money from registration fees—$25 per person in advance or $30 at the park—will be split between scholarships for graduating seniors, a college fund for Hall's five-year-old daughter, Addison, and non-profit organizations that support military families.

Last year's walk drew about 600 participants, Hall said. This year's event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will feature bagpipes, a flag line and lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse.
