Truly, the participants should boycott the race over this asinine backpack ban. I'm not a runner,…Read More but I would do so if I had previously had plans to attend this event.
But I already boycott doing any business in SF over the unconstitutional red light cameras and the OUTRAGEOUS fines that they have imposed for these pernicious, non-human devices so I guess this is just another reason to not visit SF.

Cody, are you cutting and pasting old news. Keep the news in Elkgrove. "Come on man"

I'm not from Sac and I'm die hard Bulls Fan. As an NBA fan I really hope that the commissioner and…Read More owners vote on keeping the Kings in Sacramento. It's not the fans fault that Seattle wasn't able to keep their team and also not their fault that their team owners decided not to invest in better players and instead invest in a building casino and resort in Las Vegas which failed and now want the city of sacramento and their community to suffer. Sacramento deserves the kings not Seattle. They can't support all the teams they have now. How are they going to support another team?? Seattle worry about supporting the Mariners when King Felix isn't pitching and the worry about getting an NBA team back to Seattle.

I wonder what the amount spent per square foot of this glorious waste of cash Soccer Stadium will…Read More be......
Seriously? they honestly believe almost 20,000 people will go to games over a 6 month season?
Insanity... they may as well try to get an NBA franchise to relocate to Elk grove when the ....oh...nevermind...
Tom Waltman March 19, 2013 at 06:30 pm
Jim - I would love to say that is true, but it is not. Steve Detrick has consistently been on the…Read More side of moderation in spending for several issues. As a fiscal conservative, I will give him props for speaking out against spending on items that don't provide significant community benefit or aren't at least revenue neutral. Even though he voted for continued discussion regarding the soccer stadium, he was very clear that the numbers had to make sense before he would vote for it. Pat Hume has been very close to that stance as well.
I am not singling out anyone on the Council, as I believe each person who sits up there believes he is doing what is best for the community. Gary has come up with some outstanding ideas that have paid off. He and I don't have to agree on things to believe we each have the best interests of the citizens in mind. I don't believe he would ever put the taxpaying citizens of Elk Grove at undo risk. Nor do I believe anyone else on the dias would.
Larry Pollard March 15, 2013 at 08:44 pm
Here's an idea! Let's get crime under control in this city before we do anything else!
The…Read More concession stand at the stadium would probably be robbed the first weekend that it opened!!!
Tom Waltman March 15, 2013 at 08:22 pm
Finally, did anyone catch that, even though the City Council only voted Wednesday evening to have…Read More staff ID land for a potential soccer stadium, staff came forward with a plan for the Southeast Planning Area that already had the site for the soccer stadium identified? Wonder how that happened... Folks who were present at the meeting for that plan said nothing was ever mentioned about a soccer stadium. Dang, kind of feels like old times here in Elk Grove when the deals were all made and presented as fiat accompli to the folks at the City Council meetings. Things that make you go Hmmmmm...
Tom Waltman March 15, 2013 at 08:22 pm
Having reviewed the city staff's projections, and having had a pretty close view of the Kings…Read More stadium issues, I can tell you it doesn't take a lot of cynicism to come ot the belief that losing $4,000,000 to $5,000,000 each YEAR on a $100,000,000 stadium isn't a good bet. The prospective owners obviously know the value of this proposition, as they are putting, wait for it... $0 into the stadium. When they come to the table with some money, then I will believe that we aren't being used as suckers for a pipe dream. And this stadium deal with any MLS owners better have some revenue sharing deal in case the numbers don't pan out. Leaving Elk Grove taxpayers on the hook is more than cynical.
In case anyone cares, I do support the idea of the soccer complex, as described at the City Council meeting as revenue neutral. I hope Mayor Johnson in Sacramento listened very carefully to my question to the Council regarding Elk Grove's support for a regional effort to keep the Kings. More than one Councilperson shook their heads "no." to that idea. I guess we have our own priorities here. The Civic Center project? Nope.

I love the first 3 commets. It does seem lke we have a bunch of kids running this city sometimes.

Honestly I want looked to find the negatives in this. I Googled Soccer in every negative way.…Read More Although in England the numbers seem to be falling, but the U.S. the numbers are climbing. Should Elk Grove bring soccer here. Well I have a two year old son and would very much enjoy watching him to have a local professional team to look up to. I just hope the numbers come out right for the city before they build anything. Also I think property values would go up. My biggest concern is the crime rate going up.
kelby wilson March 14, 2013 at 12:15 am
Elk grove already has enough sports areas! Focus on finishing plans already started or restore…Read More benefits for city employees before spending millions on unnecessary sports arenas
Johann Schuster March 13, 2013 at 02:58 pm
Well put. HAVING an MLS team here in Elk Grove is a grand idea. But, will people actually give…Read More their time & money?
Will they?
I think reality is an *incredibly* weak 'maybe'. Maybe not.
Jeff Thurman March 13, 2013 at 12:54 am
Just because we have a lot of people who play soccer, it does not mean they want to pay to see a…Read More game. It just means we have a lot of kids that play soccer. I go to my kids games all the time. If I took my kids to a pro game, they would want to leave by half time (and so would I). It would do well the first couple of years, but after year 2 the fans will dwindle to 2000 to 4000 per game. Concerts will not make up the difference if they are allowed.
Harold February 13, 2013 at 09:02 pm
Maybe they should concentrate on why the streets are falling apart and not being paved, why the…Read More parks aren't being taken care of why Rosemont Plaza is empty, why they are allowing the school district to close community schools, and a thousand other serious issues in the County instead of wasting time on developing a resoltuion whether or not a basketball team stays in the city. Guess I was wrong and all the serious issues have been taken care of.

Maybe next superbowl they can put on a show with people thet have talent except a few dog's shacking…Read More there huge ass's and they are not even that hot, and that's the best they have to offer, sad and sorry !!!!!

Actually, Trisha, you are wrong about the title. This article is posted on multiple Patch pages. I'm…Read More looking at it under the Banning-Beaumont Patch. I also assume that when Peter posted, the article DID have a channel #, which was removed after his post. It wasn't rude, it was simply pointing out a discrepancy in the article, which was then corrected. Thanks, Peter, for pointing that out to the editors.
Trisha Bowler February 3, 2013 at 01:46 pm
I re read the above article and didn't see a channel number. All I saw was CBS. Don't know where…Read More you live but the title of this page is called "Diamond Bar-Walnut" Patch and here CBS is located on Channel 2. You were rude to the editor!

Another cutie. JJ, thank you for conquering your fears to show your team love!

I won't miss the Kings a bit. Seattle will love them. Blanket advertising will take care of that.…Read More With increased ticket prices, parking, the cost of a beer a couple cokes and nachos, a mid-income guy with a couple boys can no longer afford attend a game. Buying a Kings Jersey? Forget it, it's as much as a tank of gas.
Cody Kitaura (Editor) January 29, 2013 at 02:05 pm
Thanks for that comment, j braun. I think the data definitely shows how NBA interest in Seattle has…Read More changed sine the Sonics left (7.5 percent average from 2000-2007, 8.9 percent in 04-05).
I'm curious, how do you feel about the way this back and forth between Seattle and Sacramento has been playing out so far? I haven't heard much from Seattle residents on it.
Mark Gold January 24, 2013 at 08:40 pm
I have to disagree. The average price of a Kings ticket has gone down in the past 6 years, so unless…Read More the price jumps more than $10 a ticket, prices shouldn't be more expensive than they've already been. If the team moves to an arena downtown then take light rail, a bus or bike to the games (it's cheaper and better for the environment). As for concessions, I'm pretty sure, the prices are no worse than any other NBA arena, which means that they're all overpriced.
If the Kings leave then the city of Sacramento and the surrounding counties and cities (including Davis) will take a critical financial hit. The team is good for the local economy and good for morale.
The big issue with the Kings is the Maloofs. They've taken the team, which actually was a serious contender from 2003-2005 and slowly run the organization into the ground. In addition, they've done nothing but disrespect the fans with all of this back and forth with regards to selling the team, and they're last minute backing out of the new arena deal. The team needs to stay put where they belong. If we lose them it will be a long time before we can secure another major sports franchise.
Roberto January 24, 2013 at 04:28 pm
So what, let em leave. If they stay I think we'll be totally flabbergasted at the new, inflated cost…Read More of a Kings ticket. Add $15.00 to park, $10.00 for a beer and 12.00 for a plate of nachos. Take your wife and a kid with you? Forget it. The name for the new stadium - 'No Hope- No Change.' The best thing that could happen to Sacramento is to lose the Kings AND the mayor. It's time.
Victor Calderon January 23, 2013 at 01:01 pm
There's still a chance. Here's hoping for the best for our SACRAMENTO Kings.
Michael R Webb January 23, 2013 at 10:25 pm
What a jerk. It is not microsoft putting up the money it is Ballmer! Why did he let the Maloofs…Read More screw the city so bad with idiot mentality. Those guys are living off the fathers genius and they did nothing but obliterate his reputation. Let them go. They have the lowest value of any of the NBA teams.Good by to Cousin's crying. He never was and never will be!!!
