Teen Shooting Victim's Family: We Want Justice to be Served

Joseph Oropesa's parents say their son was a fun-loving daredevil who was just starting to get his life together when he was killed.

Drained from grieving and busy with preparations for her teenage son Joseph's funeral, Jennifer Oropesa nevertheless took some comfort Thursday in the news that police had arrested a suspect in connection with his death. "This won't bring Joseph back, but this guy doesn't deserve to see the light of day and now justice can be served and he's not out there to hurt anybody," Oropesa said in an interview at her East Elk Grove home. Police arrested Ryan Hays, 25, Wednesday night in rural Stanislaus County and booked him on charges of murder, carjacking and robbery in connection with the fatal Sunday shooting of 19-year-old Joseph Oropesa in the Dimple Records parking lot on Elk Grove Florin Rd. Detectives said they still haven't established a …

I just want everyone to realize people are killed everyday and often without any logical reasoning or provocation, as was also the case here. I'm only trying to open the eyes of those in our town that anything can happen to anyone at anytime. We need, to band together…   more ›
