Community Photo Gallery: Congrats to the Class of 2012

It's graduation time—time to honor our local graduates who have made the grade and are moving on to bigger and better things. This community-based photo gallery is a great way to celebrate the grads in your life and tell them how proud you are of their accomplishments. CRC Business Club Heads to National Competition

After organizing training for Elk Grove small-business owners, Students in Free Enterprise won a regional award for their work.

Earlier this spring, Elk Grove Patch collaborated with a student group at Cosumnes River College to produce a series of workshops for local small-business owners. We were happy to hear this week that the CRC Students in Free Enterprise club has won a regional award for their work in the Elk Grove community, and will be heading off to the SIFE USA National Exposition in Kansas City, MO next week. Besides the training—which helped Elk Grove entrepreneurs learn about accounting, marketing, social media and more—students in the club have organized an entrepreneurship forum for high schoolers and raised funds for Elk Grove Food Bank Services. Help an Elk Grove School Win $10K in School Supplies

Elk Grove schools are in the running for the Avery Give Back to Schools promotion. You can vote through Sept. 14.

Elk Grove schools are in the running for winning $10,000 worth of Avery school supplies in a vote-driven contest. One Elk Grove school, Edna Batey Elementary, is in the top 10, currently ranked at No. 4. Katherine Albiani Middle School is at No. 18, and a couple other Elk Grove schools are in the top 200. There's still time to vote for your school — in fact, lots of time. Voting doesn't end until Sept. 14. The top 5 schools will get $10K worth of Avery school supplies, $1,000 worth of gift cards and 25,000 Box Tops for Education coupons. Pleasant Grove High Senior Wins $20,000 for Perfect Attendance

Elk Grove Unified School District senior attendance drive wrapped up Friday.

By Elk Grove Unified School District Krystal Prasad of Pleasant Grove High School had the lucky key, starting a Scion and winning the $20,000 grand prize in the Elk Grove Auto Mall 2011/2012 Graduating Seniors Attendance Drive on Friday, May 11. For the sixth year in a row, the Elk Grove Auto Mall provided a grand prize of $20,000 to be used towards the purchase of a vehicle from any dealership at the Elk Grove Auto Mall through the Elk Grove Auto Mall Graduating Seniors Attendance Drive.  This year, nine finalists representing nine EGUSD high schools who achieved at least five months of perfect attendance and at least a 2.0 GPA vied for the $20,000 grand prize. Valley High School Employee Arrested for Alleged Sex With Student

Sean Darnell Davis, 42, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

Sacramento County sheriff's deputies arrested an Elk Grove Unified School District employee Monday on suspicion of having an illegal sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student. Sean Darnell Davis, 42, worked as a campus supervisor at Valley High School  in Sacramento from 2008 until the district placed him on paid administrative leave Monday, district spokesperson Elizabeth Graswich said. A sheriff's department press release accuses Davis of performing "multiple unlawful sex acts" with the unnamed student between August 2011 and February 2012. Sheriff's department spokesperson Jason Ramos said investigators learned about the relationship from a third party and interviewed both Davis and the student. Detectives were looking into …

Alcohol at the Prom: Do You Support Zero-Tolerance Enforcement?

A bus driver who transported 35 student leaders from Dixon to a prom found a bottle containing alcohol on the bus, prompting the kids to be banned from the dance. If that happened in Elk Grove, would you support the school administration?

There's a wild story developing in Dixon, which you may hear about on larger news outlets in the coming days. With it being prom and senior ball season, we wanted to share the story. Thirty-five students from Dixon High's leadership class were banned from their junior prom when someone allegedly left a bottle of vitamin water containing alcohol on the bus that took them to the dance. As you read this story, think about whether you'd support one of Elk Grove's high schools if they approached the situation similarly.  The 35 students — some of whom had participated in an Every 15 Minutes Program last week warning them of about the dangers of drinking and driving — were stuck outside the venue when they were blocked from attending the event …

Sacramento Singer Wins Elk Grove's Teen Idol Contest

Kay Albritton of Highland High School took first place, followed by two teens from Elk Grove schools.

Teen Center USA crowned a new Teen Idol Friday night. Kay Albritton of Sacramento's Highland High School took first place in the popular Elk Grove singing competition, which draws young amateurs ages 11 to 18 from around the Sacramento region and the Bay Area. Click on the Youtube video above to hear Albritton sing at a previous talent show at her high school. Danielle Baldwin, a student at St. Peter's Lutheran School, won second place and Alicia Paulson of Joseph Kerr Middle School placed third. Congratulations to all the winners!
