Walmart Says Majority of Stores with Grocery Departments Sell Alcohol

Most Walmarts in the state that sell groceries also sell alcohol, a Walmart spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The recently opened Walmart Neighborhood Market on Elk Grove Boulevard could join those ranks, and on Thursday will ask the Elk Grove Planning Commission for permission to seek a liquor license.

"Customers would rather have everything they're looking for in one store," Walmart spokeswoman Rachel Wall said.

She said the stores have a number of safeguards against selling alcohol to minors or intoxicated customers, and train employees on the rules every year.

"Our policies regarding alcohol sales are firmly established," Wall said.
