Week in Review, April 24: Earth Week, Ghost Hunting, Gurmej Atwal's Memorial, And More

It's been a bit of a busy week in Elk Grove. Sacramento County released its five redistricting proposals, each requiring some major changes in supervisorial district boundaries. Also, Gurmej Atwal, one of the two Sikh shooting victims was cremated on Saturday. His family and members of the Sacramento and Sikh communities filled the Sacramento Memorial Lawn chapel.

 - Registrar of Voters Jill Lavine released five redistricting proposals Monday. Each proposal shows that District 5, which includes Elk Grove, could lose more than 70,000 residents.

 - The city, along with the Elk Grove Unified School District, celebrated Earth Week by organizing a citywide, weeklong shoe collection.

 - Inspired by the popular sactweetup, a couple of Elk Grovians organized the city's first-ever community meetup on Thursday.

 - Elk Grove Patch Editor Felicia Mello met with the members of local pop band Litchfield, which recently released its new single "She Moves Like Sex."

 - The Sacramento County Coroner's Office identified the victim of a recent shooting outside a south Sacramento nightclub as Elk Grove resident, Jesse D. Fowler, 29, who died from a gunshot wound to the head.

 - We met Elitha Donner Elementary School third-grader Fatime Auces who had to learn a new language and resocialize herself into an entirely different culture after her family moved from Mexico to Elk Grove. Her ability to ease through all those changes made her the highlight of this week's Generation Z column.

 - Elk Grove police arrested brothers Joe and Wilson Luu after allegedly finding 200 marijuana plants and processed marijuana in their Laguna House.

 - We covered the funeral of Gurmej Atwal, the second of two elderly Sikh men who were shot last month. About 200 members of the Sikh and Sacramento communities, including government officials, paid their respects to the grandfather of 10.
